Labels which have been filled out with text can be crafted with items/blocks to name and dye them, though this cannot be used to, for example, name chests as in modern versions.

Right clicking the base of a flag with another flag will copy the pattern onto the held flag. Saves a lot of drawing! Still have to supply the dye.

Grass, flowers, ferns, and more can naturally grow on grass blocks during the Spring and will die back in the Winter! This only applies to naturally generated plants and worlds in which seasonal growth is enabled.

Putting a netherrack into a furnace, blast furnace or trommel in the fuel slot turns the blocks into their respective "active" (lit) state and will remain in their lit state until a proper fuel source (coal, charcoal, etc.) is placed inside along with a smeltable item which will revert the block into their usual behavior. (going unlit after smelting is complete)

Its possible to use § colour codes on label, assuming you can insert the character. Copy-paste doesn't work for labels.
(On windows; Alt + 21 on a numpad, for my laptop which doesnt have a numpad I use an autohotkey script.)

This lets you create a label with multiple colours, or use other formatting options like bold or obfuscated, and using any colour code removes the normally mandatory italics.

If you place a chest next to the "output" side of a trommel, the outputs of the trommel will be fed directly into the chest instead of spitting out onto the ground.

Explosive Charges collide with non solid blocks!
Useful perhaps for a no fire zone?

Okay, I think I have also gathered some fun facts recently, I guess it's time for me to continue this thread ;)

The acceleration entities receive from reinforced pistons stacks, therefore by having more reinforced pistons push an entity at the same tick, the entity will be launched further.
With some specific setups you can launch a player with 6 reinforced pistons simultaneously, tho pushing players directly might be inconsistent on servers (consider using boats/seats instead)

The spawn rate of firefly clusters during night time is heavily influenced by sky-light level. On a patch of grass fully exposed to the sky, firefly clusters will only spawn at a rate 17/32 times of its full potential. Therefore it is recommended to build a ceiling extending 15 blocks out of the edge of the spawn platform for designing maximum rate firefly farms.

Example spawn platform

Other facts about firefly spawning:
  • firefly clusters won't spawn unless the block-light value is 0
  • firefly clusters cannot spawn in dimensions that "has ceiling". in vanilla this only applies to the nether.
  • the spawn cap of firefly is 10 per player
  • firefly clusters only require 1 block of air to spawn
  • the initial size of firefly clusters can be any of the following (x, y, z, in blocks):
    • 0.1, 0.1, 0.1
    • 1.1, 0.7, 1.1
    • 2.1, 1.3, 2.1
    • 3.1, 1.9, 3.1
    • 4.1, 2.5, 4.1
    • 5.1, 3.1, 5.1

Counter-intuitively, despite firefly clusters not being able to collide with other entities, they can still be pushed by pistons and fluid. However, they will still collide with blocks when moved (and can be slowed down by cobweb and spike traps), and cannot be pushed downwards by fluids.
firefly clusters... they really are a fascinating type of mob aren't they

Slime naturally spawn in slime chunks (indicated by slime particles), but only below (excluding) Y=32.

The only way to prevent squids from spawning within your water streams, realistically -- other than keeping 5 named squids within your world sitting in minecarts underwater, is to place minecarts within the water stream to obstruct squid spawns.

List of entities that obstruct mob spawn:
  • every types of mobs excluding firefly clusters,
  • primed tnt,
  • falling blocks,
  • boat,
  • minecart
Minecart is recommended for obstructing squid spawn because they don't interact with water. For other mobs, boat is a really good option because a single boat covers 3*3 blocks of area.

Water source blocks will check for lava above itself when being placed, and turning into cobbled limestone if so, without requiring the lava to flow down. This applies for when placed by players, by activators, and by forming as infinite water source.

This makes cobbled limestone capable of generating at a much higher rate than the other three types of cobblestones.

Piston arm does not break farmland below when activated for less than (excluding) 3 ticks (for reference, the classic torch+redstone clock outputs 2 tick signals). This is very useful for piston based crop farms.

Algae on water increases the chance of fish being caught each tick from 1/500 to 1/400 normally, from 1/300 to 1/200 during rain.
