If I understood the wiki correctly, I don't think they spawn naturally? Instead I assume you need to take fireflies from the Overworld, release them in the nether, and then they will be converted into red ones? The wiki says:

Red Fireflies do not naturally spawn in the Nether, said color may ...

how do you obtain those little fellas? ive been to all biomes and nether but couldnt find any.

first and foremost, DYNAMIC LIGHTS. I just want to see around whenever holding a torch or any block that emits light its both logical and convenient. If one argues that its against the essence of beta then just make it optional trough settings so players who wants to use it can do so as they please ...
