red fireflies

how do you obtain those little fellas? ive been to all biomes and nether but couldnt find any.

If I understood the wiki correctly, I don't think they spawn naturally? Instead I assume you need to take fireflies from the Overworld, release them in the nether, and then they will be converted into red ones? The wiki says:

Red Fireflies do not naturally spawn in the Nether, said color may only be obtained through conversion.

i mean i tried that sort of i think? i placed a jar of fireflies on nether but nothing really happened. do i gotta destroy the jar? im confused D:

Yeah you need to break it and watch the firefly particles to go red.
