New Food Item Suggestions

Post by deer »

I've been playing BTA for a few days now and so far I've really liked it; progression feels more exciting with new routes to get certain items, and for that reason I've been taking a more laid-back approach to gameplay. I really like the change to farming, with wheat now making dough that can then be cooked or used in other recipes, something that I always wondered why was never in Minecraft. Here are some similar minor food additions that like dough, that would make food progression a little more enticing and give new uses to some currently underused items.

1. Fried Egg- It's as simple as it sounds, put an egg in a furnace and cook it to get a fried egg, which can restore ~2 or maybe ~2.5 hearts like bread. This item feels like a slam dunk because it would be so simple to add and would create more incentive for players to keep chickens.

New Stews - I like how mushroom stew is usually and end-goal food item for people who prefer to forage and explore caves, and I think this should extend to farming and hunting with a bread stew and a meat stew that each promote specializing in their particular gameplay styles. Like mushroom stew, both would require two ingredients (or more) and a bowl to make. Both of these stews were also very common staples in real life up until fairly recently in human history, so their inclusion would be a welcome addition thematically.
2. Bread Soup- Bread could use a little bit of a buff, and that's where bread stew comes in; for the cost of bread, a bowl, and a bucket of water, you can turn bread from an ok food source into a strong one. It would restore as many hearts as mushroom stew.
3. Meat Stew - Like bread soup, but instead of bread use a raw piece of meat, venison or pork, and in return get a food source with more healing power than if you simply cooked the meat. Because porkchop and venison don't heal the same amount, you could even break meat stew in two with pork stew restoring only 10 hearts like the rest of the stews and venison stew restoring ~12 hearts.

4. Porridge - Similar to the stews and soups, porridge would require wheat seed, a bucket of milk, and a bowl, and would restore ~6 hearts of health. It's not as strong as the stews, but it's not bad either, and it finally gives you a way to use up those chests full of excess seeds. This would also compliment the buff to bread with the new farming incentives.

i really like the new soups idea !! and it got me thinking, imagine if we could make ANY soup we want? similar to how you craft suspicious stew in base minecraft.
put one bowl, then just put whatever items you want on a crafting table (up to 6 items) to make a "unprepared soup", then put it on a furnace to make it prepared, custom soups would also have different colors similar to potions, and they would give you less or more health depending on what you put on it! (it can even end up damaging you if you put stuff that isn't food on it..) i feel like this would be a fun little addition :-3

I think this could be spread to jars, too, like if you could turn cherries into jam by putting them in a jar. Then you could eat the jam directly for a little health or combine it with bread to get much greater healing.
