Please, fix the grey skyline bug

Every time you go under a block the skyline turns grey. Whenever you head home, stand under a tree, or enter a forest, the game becomes dull and depressing. From what I’ve tested, this doesn’t happen in beta 1.7.3. At this point, it’s hardly worth putting windows in your house.

It's by design. After all, when a block blocks the sunlight you don't perceive that sunlight.

I don't think that's the case. When you go under a tree, the sky doesn't suddenly turn grey. It's probably an insane bug with a lot of technical debt behind it that would take too much effort to fix. There is no other explanation for ignoring something as severe as this.
